I'm a registered psychologist based on the Sunshine Coast, and I started this practice because I believe understanding yourself is one of the most powerful things you can do.

Hi, I’m Alana

Not understanding yourself so you can fix what's "wrong." Understanding yourself so you can stop fighting against who you actually are — and start building a life that fits.

Why I do this work

I've always been drawn to the people who feel like they're working harder than everyone else just to keep up — the ones who are smart, capable, and exhausted, and who've spent years wondering why everything feels so much more complicated for them than it seems to for everyone else.

For a lot of my clients, that exhaustion has a name. Sometimes it's ADHD. Sometimes it's Autism. Sometimes it's both, or neither, or something that doesn't fit neatly into any category. But what they have in common is this: they've spent a long time surviving, and they're ready to do more than that.

That's what gets me to work. Helping people go from white-knuckling through life to actually understanding themselves — and realising that who they are isn't the problem.

What sessions actually look like

The best way I can describe it is this: it's a bit like having coffee with a friend who happens to know a lot about how brains work.

Sessions are conversational and collaborative — there's no formal script, no feeling like you're being observed from across a desk. You can think out loud, go off on tangents, say "I don't know" as many times as you need to. That's not a problem. That's usually where the most useful stuff comes from.

I work from a neuroaffirming, strengths-based approach, which means I'm not looking at you through a lens of what's broken or what needs fixing. I'm interested in how your brain actually works, what's gotten in the way, and what small or large changes would make the most difference to your everyday life.

Some people come with a clear goal. Others just know something needs to shift but aren't sure where to start. Both are completely fine starting points.

Sessions are available via telehealth across Australia, and in-person at my rooms in Sippy Downs on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

Qualifications and registration

I'm a registered psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA) and a member of the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc (AAPi). I completed my psychology training via the four-plus-two pathway and have worked across a range of settings — including private practice, schools, and community health — before establishing Alana Eggins Psychology.

My particular areas of focus include ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, anxiety, depression, burnout, and identity work with neurodivergent adolescents and adults.

When I’m not working…

Outside of sessions you'll most likely find me at the beach — probably picking up rubbish while I'm there. Ocean conservation is something I care about deeply, and getting into nature regularly is as much a part of my own wellbeing as anything I'd recommend to a client.

I'm also rarely without my dog Alvarez, who has strong opinions about belly rubs and views everyone as a best friend he just hasn't met yet!
